Residency Purpose Statement

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training..

The service component (staffing) is considered a longitudinal rotation during the PGY1 year. Staffing provides the resident with the opportunity to identify the unique challenges present while working as an independent practitioner and apply knowledge gained during learning experiences. The required service component is every third weekend (two 10-hour shifts) plus participation in the holiday rotation (one summer and one winter holiday).
Residents are paid a $47,500 stipend for the 52-week residency year. Twenty days of paid time off (PTO) are included; this time is expected to be used for holidays, job interviews, travel to meetings (other than ASHP Midyear and Spring residency conference), and/or illness. Medical and dental insurance is an optional benefit that the resident may elect. All residents must complete a physical, background check, drug and health screening prior to starting the residency program.
The resident will attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (MCM) to present a poster for their residency project and assist with recruiting during the Residency Showcase. The resident will also attend either the Western States Conference in California or Mountain States Conference in Utah to present the findings of their residency project. Registration and travel fees will be covered by the residency program; however, society memberships such as ASHP are the responsibility of the resident.
